At Panství Bechyně, timber harvesting activities are carried out with the goal of ensuring the quality development of forest stands and a balanced representation of age classes. There are different types of harvesting, each with its specific objectives. Silvicultural harvesting focuses on increasing the stability, resilience, quality, and species diversity of the forest at a younger age, while regeneration harvesting helps to initiate the natural processes of forest renewal with new, more resilient, higher-quality, and more species-diverse successor forest stands in older forests.

Another important goal of timber harvesting is the removal of diseased, damaged, and pest-infested trees to prevent the spread of these issues to healthy trees. Harvesting is always carried out in accordance with current legislative regulations and in line with the strategy of sustainable forest management.

Timber harvesting at Panství Bechyně is carried out by contractors, utilizing both harvester technologies and traditional harvesting methods. A significant portion of the timber, up to 25%, is transported using horses. The annual volume of timber harvested is around 36,000 m³. Panství Bechyně ensures that timber harvesting is conducted in an environmentally friendly manner, maintaining the health of forest stands and the natural processes within the forest ecosystem.
